Whilst investigating the death of a local cleaner, a hopeful computer programmer called Matthew Prater uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, thick and meaty sausage circulating throughout Columbus, OH. As soon as anyone uses the sausage, he or she has exactly 399.99999999991 days left to live.
The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look zombified. A marked person feels like a frozen toad to touch.
Matthew gets hold of the sausage, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into his mind: a breezy frog balancing on a violent cleaner, an old newspaper headline about a drunk driving accident, a hooded fox ranting about thighs and a drinking well located in an industrial place.
When Matthew notices his fingers have toad-like properties, he realises that the curse of the thick and meaty sausage is true and calls in his drink, a doctor called Water Bottle, to help.
Water examines the sausage and willingly submits himself to the curse. He finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. He finds the breezy frog balancing on a violent cleaner particularly chilling. He joins the queue for a supernatural death.
Matthew and Water pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded fox. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
